If you’re looking for a beach-themed event that will get your group mixing, mingling and out of their normal cliques, this mixer blows all others out of the water.
As participants arrive they receive a miniature beach ball. On each ball is a letter of the alphabet. They also receive a Beach Ball Blast game card with instructions on how to take part in the mixer. The card instructs participants to mix and mingle with others at the event to try and form as many words as they can by combining their letter with other participants’.
For instance, if one person had an “S” on their beach ball, they could find a person who had a “U” and another who had an “N” to form the word “sun.” The person who had “S” could then move on to find a person who had an “E” and another who had an “A” to form the word “sea.”
Alternatively, if you prefer, participants could form company-related words, or be given free rein to form any word they wish.
Our lifeguards are on patrol throughout the party. When participants form a word together, they all present themselves to the lifeguard. The lifeguard then gives a lei to everyone who formed the word.
If a participant gets an unpopular letter, not to worry! At various times throughout the reception, lifeguards blow their whistles indicating that everyone should throw their beach balls up into the air and grab another one, essentially trading their letter for a different one. Again, participants are asked to meet others to form new words.
At the end of the mixer, participants count how many leis they’ve collected, a winner is announced and a beach-themed prize is awarded.
